  • The University of L'Aquila (UNIVAQ) unit leader and project's PI works with the Department of Engineering Computer Science and Mathematics (DISIM) at the University of L'Aquila.
  • The University of L'Aquila is one of the medium-sized universities in Italy with around 20,000 students and seven Departments that promote, coordinate and organize both scientific research and teaching and training activities: Civil Engineering , Building-Architecture and Environmental (DICEA), Engineering and Information and Mathematical Sciences (DISIM), Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics (DIIE), Clinical Medicine, Public Health, Life and Environmental Sciences (MESVA ), Applied Clinical Sciences and Biotechnology (DISCAB), Physical and Chemical Sciences (DSFC), Human Sciences (DSU). There are also three research centers of excellence (CETEMPS, DEWS, EX-EMERGE) and four interdepartmental research centers (CERFIS, CITRAMS, DMTA, M&MOCS). The University of L'Aquila appears this year for the second time among the top 100, precisely in 87th position in the world and 2nd in Italy, after the Alma Mater of Bologna, in the "Times Higher Education" ranking Impact”.
  • The University of Aquila played a crucial role during the various phases of the reconstruction following the earthquake of April 2009 through the implementation and promotion of strategic research and development projects. The INCIPIT project (http://incipict.univaq.it) for example, entirely managed by the University of L'Aquila, has created an experimental optical ring to connect the most important sites of L'Aquila which was therefore considered as a laboratory city where you can experience innovative telecommunications technologies and cutting-edge software services. Thanks to these research and development activities implemented by the University, the Ministry of Economic Development has included the city of L'Aquila among the 5 sites in Italy and in Europe where it is possible to experiment with 5G technology. A research collaboration agreement was also signed with ZTE Italia (http://www.zteitaly.com) which was instrumental in opening a ZTE research center in L'Aquila where to develop projects on 5G, IoT and solutions for smart cities.
  • The University of L'Aquila has also promoted collaborations with major companies (Leonardo, Telespazio, Ansaldo-STS and FCA - https://www.fcagroup.com) to test solutions for connected vehicles that rely on 5G location and connectivity. As part of this initiative, the University of L'Aquila recently secured substantial funding to create the ExEmerge Competence Center on Connected Vehicles. In addition to ExEmerge, the University of L'Aquila has two other centers of excellence for research (CETEMPS, DEWS) and four interdepartmental research centers (CERFIS, CITRAMS, DMTA, M&MOCS).
  • The University of L'Aquila is also active in various areas of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Logic with research and technology transfer activities to which it contributes with 8 patents (two international), one of which is funded by the INFM and one co-financed from the University of L'Aquila. The University of L'Aquila is a member of the CINI AIIS "Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence Systems" National Laboratory.
  • The Global Software Engineering and Architecture (SEA) group at UNIVAQ has developed a solid research and development experience in software engineering by mainly focusing on software architectures, model-driven development, component-based programming, and recommender systems for software engineering. It collaborates with different ICT companies and is continuously involved in several national and international projects.
