|
- Summar - The paper presents an approach to enable the simulation of IoT systems by enhancing the existing simulation environment (called SimulateIoT). The proposed extensions integrate Hardware in the Loop (HiL) techniques. The proposed methodology leverages model-driven techniques to facilitate the modeling and automatic code generation of IoT systems. The paper shows the application of the proposed approach through a case study of a smart building.

- Comments - The paper addresses a relevant topic and is of interest to the conference. However, my concerns relate to the novelty of the proposed approach. The paper does not convincingly demonstrate the strengths of the proposed technologies compared to existing platforms. Current IoT systems, such as OpenHab, ThingsBoard, Microsoft Azure, and others (many of which operate at different levels of abstraction), already provide mechanisms to abstract from existing devices. Unfortunately, the authors have not clarified the goals of the proposed simulation. If the aim is to enable the execution of modeled workflows by including some simulated devices, existing approaches already allow this. Without a clear presentation of the research objectives, the novelty of the proposed approach appears limited.
